The highlight of August is the successful completion of the newcomer youth summer program.
Communication and Recreation (CaR) Summer Program for Newcomer Youth
Essay Writing Exercise with Dance and Martial Arts: Tuesdays
Three sessions were held in August with an average of 12 youth attending each session. The youth after learning the basics of essay writing, worked hard on completing their essays with the help of team leaders and mentors. During each 3 hour session, they participated in learning basic defensive martial arts from a black belt instructor. They also learnt modern dance from a youth mentor who has a passion for dance and has performed for various projects and talent shows. Click here to read the full review

SPEAK UP against BILL C-4 NOW! Advocate for a common and humanitarian cause!!!
On 16 June 2011, the government reintroduced the Preventing Human Smugglers from Abusing Canada’s Immigration System Act as Bill C-4 (formerly Bill C-49). Despite the title, most of the provis...ions in the bill punish refugees, not smugglers. The people who will suffer if this bill is passed are people fleeing persecution, including children. There is always something better left for you, around the corner…
- A story based on true life incidents
by Tsewang
There must have been times like this for all the people out there and each and every individual has their own way of handling the situation. Some people might be so overwhelmed and might lose their hope whereas some might be patient enough and keep their spirits high despite any circumstances.
Well, you must be wondering what I’m talking about. Clear the confusion by reading the story below.
It was summertime and like always all the students were talking about applying for summer jobs or part-time jobs so that they could keep themselves busy and also earn some money. Unlike most of the students who applied for lots of positions, a boy named Tenzin wanted a fun summer job so that he could do what he likes and also have a fun learning experience earning some money so that he could buy things he wants for school and other purposes even if he had a part-time job which doesn’t provide him enough hours. Therefore, he applied for two summer part-time positions which were based on his interest and which he was so excited about. He was called for interviews for both the positions and had a positive hope to get one of them whichever. The day before the interview, he searched and looked for information that he might need for the interview through Internet and was pretty much prepared for the next big day when he had both the interviews on the same day. The next day he woke up fresh and walked towards his first interview. He was confident and hoped for the interview to go well. The questions that were asked in the interviews were more about thinking and that made him nervous enough to give some answers that he later realized were not that reliable. First interview was done and he didn’t really expected because of the environment he was in during the interview and some answers he gave that made him feel like he shouldn’t have said that. He said in his mind, “This one wasn’t the best one but I hope to do better on the next one”.
It was time for the next interview and the clock stroke 2:00pm. He was called in and unlike the other interview; this one was more of straight questions with some thinking and situational questions. He answered all the questions with whatever came in his mind at that particular time. It was done in like 10 minutes and he felt good after the interview and the day passed by eventually.
After two days, he was supposed to know if he was being selected or not and he was eagerly waiting for a call or a mail. He didn’t get any calls. Later in the evening, he checked his mail to find out that he was not selected for both the positions. That whole night was like the most boring night as he kept on thinking about it and this went on for a week until one morning he got this call from a job he applied way before and also went in for interview way back. The woman over the phone told him to come to work tomorrow for training and that actually made his day. He was so happy because the job he got was something related to his future carreer goals with flexible hours and actually paid relatively more.
That’s when he said in his mind, “No wonder I didn’t get the other two jobs. This job was actually left for me”.
‘This is how life can turn out for all the people out there and just keep in mind that we should never lose hope in whatever we do and take every mistakes we made as a learning experience and never stop learning.’
