Could you tell a bit about yourself?
My name is Karma Gyatso and I recently graduated from Parkdale Collegiate Institute high school. This fall I will be joining Humber College taking culinary management program. This past summer I was employed as a youth team leader for the youth summer program at Parkdale Community Information Centre & Parkdale Intercultural Association. I really wanted to build my skills to a higher level and by working as a youth team leader, I have build many skills such as communication skills, team work, writing skills, and many more. I feel more confident and I have become effective communicator, and a better team leader.
What has been your motivation in bringing commitment and persistence to your work?
The thing that motivates me in bringing commitment and persistence to my work is that I want to be a good role model for all the youths and at the same time encouraging/helping them out as a part of my job and being a good team leader.
What are some of the challenges you faced as a newcomer and how did you overcome them?
The only challenge that I faced was communicating with other people, but through this program, I have picked up language easily because everyone from participant to team leader were very encouraging and supportive.
