Youth Success Story of the Month
My name is Tashi and this is my success story. My first job came as a shock to me, as I was not fully prepared for the interviews and luckily did not need to submit a resume to my prospective employer. Amateur and nervous as I was, getting the job in my opinion was solely due to luck and my friends who urged me to apply and practice some potential interview questions. But applying for my second job (as a page at the Parkdale Library) needed more preparation as there were many people varying in ages applying for this particular job that definitely were more knowledgeable and far more accomplished than I am. So I took up the task to ask Kalsang at the PCIC to review my resume which I had intended to submit to my potential employer and lucky as I was, she was not only kind enough to review and edit my resume but also became my reference. Therefore, I was able to present a strong resume and then for the interviews, the various workshops on employment organised by the PCIC newcomer youth program greatly helped me prepare for them. Thus when I headed for my interview, I felt fully prepared and did my best to give good responses to questions as I was trained and I got the job. I am really grateful to Kalsang and the newcomer youth program of PIA and PCIC and to the Citizenship and immigration for funding this great program. I also want to thank my peers who are my supportive participants for training me in the necessary skills in getting this job and I am pretty sure luck had little to do with it.
