Success story of the month
My Story - an interview with youth Mohit Aasi
This interview was conducted on June 19th 2012 via email. We thank Mohit for taking the time to do this interview.
1. Could you tell us a bit about yourself?
I’m Mohit Aasi, I came to Canada in 2002 from India. Now I am a Parkdale resident, attending grade 11 at Western Technical Commercial School. Life was very different for me when I first got here. I had to get used to new teaching styles and meet new people from various backgrounds and cultures. I realized that people had to change with the time and environment they are faced with. Like they say when you’re in Rome do like the Romans do.
2. What is your involvement with the Newcomer Youth Program?
I was a summer program youth participant in 2010. I attended the program activities the whole summer attending various workshops and outdoor activities with about 15 other youth. We had writing competitions along with outdoor sports, potluck picnic and visits to High park and Centre Island. We ended the program with a newcomer youth exhibit where I made a short video presentation.
3. What has been your motivation in bringing commitment and persistence to your work?
This is easy, if you actually love what you are doing then you don’t need any motivation or a pat on the back because it’s what you love to do and you are getting paid for it either in cash or kind. So do what you love nothing less. Growing up is not all about getting mature and learning from your mistakes, it’s also about doing the things what you said you would do when you’re older. (don’t get me wrong, I am still under 18!)

The Wrath of the Titans
PG 13
The Wrath of the Titans is an amazing movie. The movie has an excellent blend of action, loyalty, and betrayal in it. For Greek god action movie lovers, this would be one of the best movies they have ever seen.
The story is about a hero, Perseus who settles down with a son and how he is thrown back into the world of fighting that he has sworn never again to return. Zeus, Perseus’s father and ruler of Olympus visits him and asks him for his help to fight against the Titans but Perseus refuses. Later on in the movie Zeus is captured in the underworld by his brother Hades, god of death and the underworld, and his son Ares, god of war and bloodshed.
This movie gave out great sensation to its audience once you have watched only ten minutes of it. In the beginning I was overcome with a sense of wonder at how the narrator was elaborating the changes in Perseus’s life. That sense of wonder was replaced with a sense of excitement when Perseus fought against the Chaimera, a beast with two eagle heads and body of a lion with three poisonous tails. The mood was altered to sadness when Perseus sustained dangerous wounds from the poisonous tails.
The movie nearly left me breathless with the fast-paced action, and courageous sacrifices. There was this scene where Perseus was fighting against a winged fire-breathing monster, Rios, a Titan who he sliced by burying his sword into the monster’s head which made it seem so cool in a gory manner. The movie brought out a lot of emotions in me seeing how easily situations could change. The ending scene where only Perseus survived when Zeus passed away into oblivion after his father, Kronos stripped him off his immortal soul taught me one important lesson, that one day your parents would have to die and you would be the only person that you could rely on in life.
There were no brand placements or smoking which made the movie a lot better without brands.
This movie was excellent because it had mature content that was good enough for both teenagers and young adults. It had material that wouldn’t attract teenagers into addictive substances or products. The writer or the director could have put some alcohol drinking scenes when the army was celebrating the return of the princess, Endromeda but they didn’t. Instead they showed dancing and feasting with no alcohol.
The movie deserves a rating of 10/10 because of the excellent plot and action.
